... The Emperor of China learns that one of the most beautiful things in his empire is the song of the nightingale,when the emperor is given a bejeweled mechanical nightingale, he loses interest in the real bird,and the real bird returns to the forest, the mechanical bird breaks down and the emperor is taken ill,when the real nightgale learns of this he returns to the emperor Death is so moved by the nightingale's song that he departs and the emperor recovers.

I used a female Emperor for my version of the story ,one reason it has been said Hans Christian Andersen wrote "The Nightingale" for Swedish opera singer Jenny Lind who he fell in love with. And i wanted to tie together part of the fairytale and true story :)

Completed on 2'5 x 3'5 Arches Hotpress Watercolor Paper , watercolor&watercolor pencils,2009.
